USB 2.0 v/s USB 3.0

USB
Universal Serial Bus (USB) is an industry standard developed at first in the year of 1996 and defines the cables, connectors and communications protocols used in a bus for connection, communication and power supply between computers and electronic devices. The purpose of designing the USB was to make connection between the computer peripherals like keyboards, printers, network adapters, etc. and PCs in order to make them communicate with each other and also for making the supply of electric power. This blog article is there to make you develop a crystal clear concept about the vital differences between USB 2.0 and USB 3.0. USB 3.0 is the latest version of USB released in November 2008 which was about 8 years after the release of USB 2.0. Also the USB 3.0 can be distinguished as it is blue colored from inside. Yet other differences between the two of them are in the Data Transfer Rates which is 4.8 Gbps for USB 3.0, ten times faster than that of 480 Mbps of USB 2.0. Also the USB 3.0 has twice the number of wires which is 8 with respect to 4 in case of USB 2.0. The Power Consumption factor can also be stated as one of the major differences between the two USBs. The USB 3.0 provides 900 mA of power which is 500 mA in case of USB 2.0. The USB 3.0 also conserves more power with respect to USB 2.0 when it is connected but in the idle state. Also USB 3.0 can handle bi-directional data paths, one to receive and other to transmit simultaneously while USB 2.0 handles unidirectional data path at one point of time. USB 3.0 also consists of a newly added feature (not there in USB 2.0) in which the device can send the notifications for its readiness to the host by using the packets NRDY (Not ready) and ERDY (Endpoint Ready). So these were some of the differences between the USB 3.0 and 2.0.
